There was a time when I slept rough across Westminster, begged outside banks and carried years of trauma that nobody passing me on the street could see. People saw addiction, behaviour and homelessness, but very few stopped to ask what had happened before I reached that pavement.
Eighteen years later, I have spoken in Parliament, worked alongside homelessness organisations and contributed to the wider conversations that helped lead to the repeal of the Vagrancy Act.
I created Homelessness Inside Out because people experiencing homelessness are too often reduced to labels, statistics and assumptions. Behind every person is a story of trauma, loss, care, poverty, abuse, mental ill health, domestic violence or systems that failed to intervene when it mattered most.
